My Favorite Quick Recipes

Balancing a busy schedule is not an easy feat, as I well know. However, that does not mean that you should just settle for eating takeout, or gobble on cereals and junk food, instead of eating a home cooked meal. I will share with you a few of my favorite recipes that do not take a lot of time to prepare.

One of the easiest things to make in the morning, when you are pressed for time is a simple omelet, or better yet, scrambled eggs. Just whisk 2 or 3 eggs in a bowl, with a bit of salt and pepper, and add anything else you may like such as a shredded bacon, or grated cheese. Use a non-stick pan if you want to avoid getting too much fat in your diet, and pour the eggs and everything else inside the pan. In just a few minutes, your omelet is ready, and you can enjoy a full fledged breakfast without worrying about wasting time.

Another breakfast meal I prepare quite often is a quick quesadilla. I use leftovers from a fried chicken and a bit of grated cheese, and I make sure always to have tortillas in the freezer. To make this fast, I use my quesadilla maker that makes all the ingredients mingle together in such a manner that I doubt I have ever tasted a more delicious treat even in a Mexican restaurant.

Pasta is, of course, the kind of dish you can prepare quite quickly and I am really in love with this Italian recipe. This is the type of food you can eat in the afternoon, for lunch, although I do not put it beyond me to serve it in the evenings, too. The best part about pasta is that you can pretty much combine it with everything you like. If you like something simple, just mix your pasta with tomato sauce and pick your favorite seasoning. This is a light, yet filling meal that will give you energy for a few more hours, if you eat it for lunch, and will not make your digestion difficult if you choose it for evenings.

I am a big fan of Mexican cuisine, and I guess that shows in my choice of recipes. Chicken fajitas score high on my list when it comes to preparing a quick dinner that I will know for sure that others will enjoy as much as I do. I season my chicken strips with cumin, chili powder, pepper and salt and I cook in a cast iron skillet for about 7 minutes, with a bit of oil. In the same pot, I sauté mushrooms, onions, and garlic for 5 or 6 minutes. I place everything on plates, and this is my quick dinner that does not have me miss my favorite TV show.

Great products that can help you cope with asthma and allergies

Having a loved one suffering from asthma or if you yourself are suffering from it means that you have to make sure that your home is on point so that their/your life is comfortable and safe. So, in this post, I decided to open up to you and share my thoughts on what I personally do to keep an eye out on the factors that might trigger any unfortunate asthma attack. Because I feel like no additional thoughts are needed, I will cut straight to the point and discuss what I consider to be the best products that ease the process of coping with this illness.

We all know that the biggest enemy of an asthma patient is dust. Even now, after growing up, I can still remember my mother’s saying that “a clean carpet means clean air” and I couldn’t agree more with her! So, the best decisions you can make is to invest in a good vacuum cleaner. And, given the high sensibility of asthma patients, the safest bet is, hands down, a vacuum outfitted with a HEPA filter. Capable of retaining up to 99.97% of the dust particles and prevent them from reentering the air flow of the room, this type of vacuum reduces the potential allergens in your home and makes it safer!

Also, it has been proven that chemical scents are also common asthma triggers. However, nowadays, all cleaning products are strikingly scented. And, let’s be honest, playing the trial and error strategy when choosing products that you or your loved ones are unreactive at, is certainly not the road you want to take. So, here’s my tip for you: go for products that are either unscented or search for products with the asthma & allergy friendly™ Certification Mark as it will save you both time and money!

Last but not least, invest in an indoor air filter. Such a device will definitely make it easier for asthma patients and it will be highly appreciated. Although it is uncertain if this kind of appliances is able to actually prevent such an illness, given the fact that they are designed with asthma patients’ needs in mind it is safe to say that they are able to create comfortable surroundings by removing allergens from the air. However, keep in mind that such air cleaners have a major con- they produce ozone, a substance proven harmful for humans.

All in all, I hope that my advice will help you and your families in the fight against this fast spreading illness. I hope that implementing my suggestions will aid creating safer living conditions that are fitting even to those less lucky. And, don’t forget, prevention is easier than treatment so,try to take good care of yourself and your house.

3 Kitchen Appliances I Couldn’t Live Without

I still remember the times when my mother was busy in the kitchen, and she managed to cook a hearty meal for our entire family using nothing but a cutting board, a simple knife (not a chef’s one, or anything like that), and a pot. Now, I must say that while I still have fond memories of those times, I am more than grateful for the plethora of kitchen appliances we have around us for making our lives easier. Now, I want to tell you all about the kitchen appliance I seriously cannot live without.

The first on my list is a food processor. I know that it is not rocket science to slice and dice vegetables, but a food processor is so much better than my hands, and it is also extremely fast. Not to mention that slicing onions no longer has to bring tears to my eyes. I use my devoted food processor for most recipes I prepare. Personally, I prefer a model that comes with multiple functions, and this is what I have at home. Whether I am in the mood for a salad, or I need to chop veggies for a stew or soup, my food processor does all the heavy lifting for me, and I am very grateful for it.

The next on my list may sound like a surprise, but it is something I enjoy having in my kitchen because it helps me cook one of my favorite dishes with very little effort. I am talking about a quesadilla maker. If you have never heard of such a thing, I am happy to help you learn about it.

A quesadilla maker is a simple kitchen appliance that helps you make the famous Mexican dish fast and easy. All you need are some tortillas, and the ingredients you usually like in your quesadillas, such as shredded chicken meat and grated cheese. Here is how this works. You plug in the quesadilla maker, you let it heat up (mine lets me know when it is ready by turning on an indicator light), and place one tortilla on the bottom cooking plate.

You spread the ingredients on top of the tortilla and you complete with another. You press the top cooking plate over, and you lock the lid. In about 5 minutes, the quesadillas are ready. My unit parts the tortillas into wedges, and they are so delicious when hot. I make quesadillas almost every day, before leaving for work and I am in love with this dish and my quesadilla maker.

The last item I want to mention is a toaster. When I am not in the mood for a quesadilla, I prefer having some fresh toast. It helps me put together breakfast quite fast, and it is also healthier than other alternatives.

5 Ways to Use Lemon to Clean Your Entire Home

Did you know the old saying “if life gives you lemons, make lemonade”? I have a bunch of other ideas on what to do with lemons, if you happen upon some extra supply of the citrusy fruit. I personally prefer cleaning my home using easy to make, non-toxic, substances, and lemons come right into my way of making things.

One thing I use lemons for is for cleaning shower doors. In case I need to finish quickly with the cleaning, here is what I do: I cut a lemon in half and I rub it over the areas where hard water stains have made their nasty appearance. I can tell you that this solution works wonders, because all the gunk is quickly dissolved. Plus, your bathroom will smell great! In case you have a bit more time, I suggest squeezing lemon juice on a sponge and rub the more difficult spots. There is no way you will not do a great job this way.

Lemon juice is great for cleaning your dishwasher, too. No matter how religious one is about cleaning their dishwasher, in time, an unpleasant smell will start to develop. Here is what I do. I squeeze enough lemon juice in a cup which I place on the bottom rack. Then I run one rinse cycle and I dry away the nasty smells in no time! Your dishwasher will be pristine clean once more and it will also smell pretty nice.

Have you run out of bleach? Maybe it is the right time to consider that you are spending way too much money on this cleaning and whitening agent and you are not that pleased with its toxic content, either. If that is the case, just add half a cup of lemon juice to your laundry, when you run the rinsing cycle. You will be more than pleased with the results.

Air cleaners that are sold commercially are not good for your health. They are loaded with toxic compounds, and in time, they can really lower the air quality in your home. Instead, use lemon juice, mixed with cloves that is brought to a simmer and then poured into a spray bottle. Just spray a little of this natural air freshener around the house, and you will be more than pleased with how fresh and wonderful your home will smell.

Make your own furniture polish from lemon juice, lemon oil and a bit of vegetable oil. The entire furniture will shine and it will not attract dust as easily. Mix two tablespoons of juice with 10 drops of essential oil and half a cup of olive oil. Put everything into a spray bottle and use it next time you do the cleaning. Use a soft piece of cloth for wiping, and enjoy a clean home that smells wonderful.

Electric Brooms – Corded Vs Cordless

With science and technology burgeoning so rapidly, we moved from ordinary brooms to the electronic brooms and soon to the cordless brooms. The cordless brooms sound fascinating and your eyes will immediately start twinkling with the mere thought of the convenience it will  bring. But, on the very same note, you might also wonder whether it is a good idea to shift to the cordless brooms or not.

Well, to get you directed over the right path and give a clear idea on what type of broom would be best for you, we present here a comparison on this hot debate.

On Convenience

Well obviously, cordless brooms will score more in this category ( People generally recommend the ones from Electrolux). As they are ‘cordless’ they are easier to carry around and clean, unlike the electric brooms with cords with which you remain restricted only to the area that comes under the range of the cord.

So if you have big rooms with less switch boards, go for cordless!

On Power

On the grounds of power the cordless fails to defeat corded brooms. Cordless brooms require to be charged, they will run off  batteries and hence cannot supply consistent stream of power. Whereas, corded brooms use direct electricity and therefore will never run out of charge unless you have a power failure.

Hence you can opt for a cordless broom only if your cleaning durations are small.

On Strength and Capacity

Since cordless brooms are battery driven, therefore are not as good in suction as electrically driven corded brooms.

If you don’t have small kids or pets to mess around all the time, and do not require heavy cleaning very often, then you can opt for a cordless broom. If not then it will be wise to stick to the corded brooms.

Talking about the capacity, the dirt holding capacity of a cordless broom is comparatively lesser than that of a corded broom and hence a cordless broom will require frequent emptying.

Both, cordless & corded electric brooms have their own pros and cons and the choice should be made only on the type of usage you have.

So choose wisely and stay mess-free!!
